Dragons place 12 grapplers at Del Rosa Open

Tiffin University's men's wrestling team had 12 placers at the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open Nov. 13.

Tiffin competed in the Open Blue Division and the White Division (Freshman/Sophomores). In the Blue Division, Matt Zuckerman (149 pounds) took the top spot in 5th place. He had a 15-0 win over RIT and a 5-2 win over Notre Dame before taking fifth after a forfeit.

Branden Mendoza (125) also placed 6th, opening with a 10-0 win over Cleveland State and a 7-4 win over Bellarmine.

Also getting wins in the Blue Division was Dylan Mansor (149) over RIT in 2:14, and Sam Lofaso (165) over Ashland in 5:08.

Ten of TU's placers came in the White Division. Anthony Aniciete (125) and Jakob Hurley (165) had the best day, both taking 2nd place.

Anciete had a 10-0 win over Lake Erie and a 5-1 unattached win before falling to Ohio State in the title match in 1:40.

Hurley had an 11-3 win over Case Western before getting two pins against RIT in 2:23 and Case Western in 2:16. He fell in the title match to Ashland 3-1.

TU had three 4th-place finishers. Connor Twigg (174) had a 6-4 win over Ohio Wesleyan and three straight wins via fall over RIT in 6:28, Gannon in 2:16, and Gannon in 1:39. He fell in the 3rd-place match to Central Michigan 13-2.

Dean Hetrick (184) got five wins (two by forfeit) including a 11-0 win over Gannon, a 3-0 win over Case Western, and a 4-2 win over Bellarmine. He fell 11-2 to Lake Erie in the 3rd-place match.

Clayton Ours (285) also took fourth, getting pins over Mt. Union in 1:19 and an unattached opponent in 3:59. He also beat Ashland 11-4 before falling to RIT in 2:14.

Justin Smythe (149) was 5th, getting a 10-1 win over RIT and a 3-1 win over Gannon before taking 5th due to medical forfeit.

Iain Escobar (157) was 5th with a 9-7 win over Toledo, a 10-5 win over Mercyhurst, and a pin over Case Western in 53 seconds before pinning Toledo in 1:39 for 5th place.

Iran Love (184) also took 5th with an unattached 2-1 win, a 10-2 win over TU, and a 3-1 sudden victory win over Mt. Union. He took fifth after a medical forfeit.

Finally, TU had two 6th-place marks. Elijah Hunter (141) had a pin fall victory in 2:41, a 19-0 win over Mt. Union, and a fall over RIT in 4:02, while Evan Straub (197) got a 7-6 win and a pin in 4:24, both over Ohio Wesleyan opponents.

Also getting wins on the day were Jack Collins at 133 (16-0 over Wheeling, 9-7 over Ashland), Mason Amadio at 133 (4-3 over Glenville State), Christopher Oleksiak at 133 (Wheeling in 5:00), Gavin Owens at 141 (15-0 over Ohio Wesleyan, 14-8 over Wheeling, TU in 1:25), Carson Steinmetz at 174 (unattached in 2:50), Nate Mansor at 184 (4-0 over RIT), and Jake Noon at 285 (Newberry in 3:20).
