Dragons open GMAC Duals with win over 9th-ranked Oilers

Tiffin University opened the GMAC Duals with a strong 37-12 upset victory over 9th-ranked Findlay.

TU will take on 12th-ranked Ashland at 10 am on Jan. 22, followed by Lake Erie at 12 pm and Kentucky Wesleyan at 2 pm. 

The Dragons opened the dual in hot fashion, winning five of the first six matches. Brandon Mendoza (125 pounds) opened with a pin in 4:06 while Bryce Allison (133) picked up a 6-2 decision in TU's second match.

After Matt Zuckerman (141) fell 7-0, TU got three straight falls to take control. Collin Adkins (149) got the pin in 1:39, Dylan Mansor (157) did the same in 1:45, and Bryan LaVearn (165) made it three in a row in 4:44.

Samuel Lofaso (174) suffered a loss by pin in 55 seconds, while Kian Thompson (184) lost a close one 4-0, but TU bounced back to pick up strong victories in the final two weight classes as Nicholas Mason (197) got another win via fall in just 44 seconds and David Henson (285) got a major decision 11-1.
