Three placers lead Dragons at Findlay Open

Tiffin University had three placers at the Findlay Open, with Nick Mason finishing 4th overall at 197 pounds.

Mason opened with two pins against Gannon in 26 seconds and Indianapolis in 46 seconds. After falling to West Liberty 19-10, Mason bounced back for three straight wins. He outpointed Edinboro 5-2, flattened Indianapolis in 1:45, and clipped Ashland 7-2. He fell in the third-place match to Central Michigan by medical forfeit.

The Dragons also got two other fifth-place finishers. Bryan LaVearn (165 pounds) opened with two narrow victories over Ohio State 7-6 and Indianapolis 5-4. After falling to Gannon 7-4 and losing in overtime to Ashland 3-1, he won the fifth place match against Lake Erie 7-0.

Elijah Hunter (141) also was fifth, posting three wins to open the day. He pinned Mercyhurst in 2:03, then outpointed Edinboro 11-5 and Gannon 7-6. Hunter then fell to Findlay 11-4 before falling in the consolations by medical forfeit. He took fifth with a no-contest decision over Wisconsin-Parkside.

Other wins on the day came from Chase Dickerson at 125 pounds (pin over Gannon in 2:55), Caden Crawford at 125 (7-2 over Findlay), Brandon Mendoza at 125 (5-0 over Findlay, 19-3 over Gannon), Matthew Zuckerman at 141 (pin over Gannon in 4:51, 8-6 sudden victory over Brock Herman, 7-6 over Gannon, injury default over Edinboro), Josh Lyons at 141 (11-4 over Gannon), Collin Adkins at 157 (13-6 over Wisconsin-Parkside), Dylan Mansor at 157 (11-2 over Findlay), Cameron Piercy at 197 (pin over Notre Dame in 2:16), Dylan McCandless at 197 (5-4 over Indianapolis, pin over Gannon in 1:07), and Clayton Ours at 197 (8-7 over Ashland).
