Dragons fall to Ashland, Findlay in mat matchups

In a battle of three nationally ranked programs, Tiffin University (ranked 17th) came up short, falling to 8th ranked Ashland 28-18 and 13th ranked Findlay 30-15.

In the opener against the Eagles, TU opened with wins in three of the first four matches. Bryce Allison (133 pounds) got a 6-3 victory, Collin Adkins (149) won by fall in 2:24, and Matthew Zuckerman (141) got a forfeit win.

But TU could manage just one more win the rest of the way, with Bryan LaVearn getting a 7-4 decision at 165 pounds. Hunter Langeloh lost a tough 3-1 decision at 157 pounds, while 2nd ranked Nicholas Mason (197) suffered his first loss of the year by fall in 2:32. 

Against Findlay, the Dragons suffered a couple of narrow losses that combined with a couple forfeits at 184 and 197 pounds to swing things the Oilers' way. Branden Mendoza (125) fell 2-1 while Zuckerman fell in a 4-3 decision. 

Picking up wins were Allison (3-1 in sudden victory) and Adkins (pin in 4:16), while LaVearn got his second win of the day in a hard fought 4-0 decision. David Henson (285) got Tiffin's last win with a 7-1 score.
