Tiffin University took on more of the nation's toughest teams at the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Kentucky, finishing 8th overall.
Tiffin took on 3rd-ranked Notre Dame and 8th-ranked Upper Iowa but came up short in both matches. Notre Dame posted a 23-10 win while Upper Iowa won 28-10.
Against the Falcons, Nathaniel Stubblefield (125) got things off on the right foot with a close 7-4 win. But Notre Dame responded with two wins in the next two weight classes.
The Dragons then bounced back with two wins of their own, as Trey Grine (157) got a hard fought 8-6 win and Bryan LaVearn (165) got a 9-0 shutout victory.
That was the last win TU got in the match, however, as Notre Dame won the final four weight classes. Hayden Bronne (174) fell 9-5, Richard Screptock (184) fell 5-2, and Nicolas Smythe (197) also fell in a close one 5-2.
Against UIU, the Dragons dropped their first five matches. Stubblefield lost a narrow 5-3 decision, and Dylan Mansor (141) also had a close 9-5 defeat.
Tiffin got its only two wins from LaVearn 8-0 and Bronne by pin in 49 seconds. Screptock lost an 8-2 decision while Christopher Donathan (149) also fell 10-4. David Henson (285) also fell in a close matchup 4-2.
