Dragons improve to 4-2 with 13-8 win over McKendree

Tiffin University (4-2) used a dominant edge in draw controls to keep McKendree under control, holding off a couple charges by the Bearcats to win 13-8.

Tiffin held a 16-7 lead in draws, including a 10-4 mark in the first half. That combined with defensively holding McKendree to just 2 for 6 on free position shots along with 12 saves from Kat Schneeberger helped preserve the Dragons victory.

Tiffin scored four of the first five goals, holding a 4-1 lead at the 16:58 mark of the first half. Elle Hamilton and Maddy Batley scored two goals apiece to give TU the early lead.

McKendree made a run late in the half, pulling to within 5-4 when TU took a timeout. The break worked, as TU regrouped and went on a 4-1 tear over the final 10 minutes of the half to lead 8-5 at halftime.

Two quick goals by Ashley Osbeck and Leah Davis to start the second half gave TU a 10-5 lead. The teams traded goals over the next few minutes before the Bearcats put a couple goals in the net to pull to within 11-8 with 12:47 to play.

The Dragons used the clock on their ensuing possessions, getting finishing goals by Hamilton and Batley in the final 2:30 to put the game away.

TU converted on 5 of 8 free position chances, while holding McKendree to just two free position conversions. The Bearcats were 0 for 3 on free position shots in the second half.

Overall Batley had 5 goals and an assist with 5 draws, while Hamilton finished with 5 goals, 6 ground balls, 8 draws, and 2 caused turnovers. Amie Morrison had a goal and 2 assists, and Osbeck had a goal and assist. Leah Davis added a goal, and Daniela Carey had an assist. 

Schneeberger got the win in goal, making 12 saves over 60 minutes.
