Women’s Basketball Battles Back to Beat Hillsdale 52-50

The Tiffin University women's basketball team battled back after being down in the second half to win 52-50 at Hillsdale.

The Dragons improve to 13-14 overall and 10-11 in the GMAC, while the Chargers fall to 13-13 overall and 10-10 in the GMAC.

The Dragons shot 34.4 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from beyond the arc, while the Chargers shot 32.1 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from three-point territory. Tiffin outrebounded Hillsdale 41-33, caused 14 turnovers compared to 10 by the host, and tallied 13 second-chance points compared to the Chargers' five.

The Dragons started strong, leading 10-5 midway through the first quarter. Tiffin kept up their offensive pressure and outscored the host 11-8 to end the quarter up 21-13.

The Chargers went on a 4-0 run to start the second quarter to cut the lead to 21-17. Hillsdale kept their momentum and went on a 9-4 run to take a 26-25 lead with 3:56 left in the first half. The host kept their lead the rest of the half to lead 30-27.

Hillsdale came out of the half and pulled away from the Dragons with a 6-4 run to lead 36-31, but Tiffin countered with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 36-36. TU outscored Hillsdale 6-2 the rest of the quarter to hold a 42-38 lead going into the final frame.

Buckets were hard to come by in the fourth as both teams only scored nine total points to bring the score to 46-43 with Tiffin leading at the media timeout. The Dragons made some clutch free throws the rest of the fourth quarter, drawing multiple fouls and would seal the 52-50 win as Hillsdale's last three-point shot missed at the buzzer.

Aarion Nichols led the Dragons with 13 points shooting 4-for-15 from the field, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block, Kirsten Williams scored nine points shooting 3-for-8 from the field and 1-for-2 from three, 11 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and one steal, and Savanah Richards tallied nine points shooting 4-for-7 from the field, grabbed two rebounds, and three steals.
