O’Connor Sets Career-High to Beat Findlay 60-57

The Tiffin University women's basketball team beat conference rival the University of Findlay 60-57, as freshman Brianna O'Connor set a career-high with 24 points.

The Dragons improve to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference, while the Oilers fall to 5-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

The Dragons had the advantage on offense, outshooting the Oilers from the field 43.2 percent compared to 39.3 percent, while also shooting better from beyond the arc with Tiffin shooting 52.4 percent compared to Findlay's 23.8 percent. Tiffin outrebounded Findlay 36 to 28, and the Dragons had 13 assists compared to the Oilers' nine.

The Oilers jumped out to an 11-6 start, but the Dragons countered with a 10-2 run to take a 16-13 lead fueled by back-to-back threes from O'Connor. However, the Oilers ended the quarter with a 4-0 run to close out the quarter with a 17-16 lead.

The two teams traded baskets for the first five minutes where the Dragons outscored the Oilers 8-7 to tie the game at 24-24 with 4:49 left in the second quarter. Findlay went on a 5-2 run to take a 29-26 lead and extended their lead to 33-30 going into halftime.

The Dragons came out on fire, going on a 7-0 run to lead 37-30 in the first three minutes of the half, but the Oilers responded with a 10-3 run to tie the game 40-40 at the 4:12 mark. Tiffin outscored the Oilers 8-2 the rest of the third quarter to lead 48-42 going into the final frame.

The Oilers started the fourth quarter with a 6-2 run to come within two of the Dragons, but Tiffin responded with a 4-0 run to lead 54-48 with 4:03 left in the game. Findlay responded with a 4-0 run again to bring the score to 54-52 with 2:58 left. The Dragons ended the game outscoring the Findlay 6-5 down the stretch with a clutch shot in the final 20 seconds of the game to seal the 60-57 win.                                              

Brianna O'Connor led the Dragons with 24 points shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 5-for-7 from three-point range, grabbed three rebounds, and had two steals, followed by Aarion Nichols who had 13 points shooting 5-for-14 from the field, with seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and 2.5 blocks. Kirsten Williams had six points shooting 2-for-5 from the field. Jada Tate also led the team with 13 rebounds while Savanah Richards had 5 assists.
