Women’s Basketball Defeated by Chargers 72-63

The Tiffin University women's basketball team lost to conference opponent Hillsdale 72-63 as four Dragons hit double-digit points.

The Chargers improve to 10-6 overall and 7-3 in the conference, while the Dragons fall to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Both teams shot well as Hillsdale shot 24-for-61 (39.3%) from the field and 8-for-25 (32.0%) from three-point range, while the Dragons shot 22-for-70 (31.4%) from the field and 10-for-31 (32.3%) from beyond the arc. The Chargers had more rebounds 50-41, more points off turnovers 8-7, and second-chance points 10-3. Tiffin had 13 assists compared to the Chargers' 11, only nine turnovers to Hillsdale's 12, and the Dragons bench scored 14 points compared to the visitor's three.

The first quarter started out fast for Tiffin as they were tied twice with the Chargers, but Hillsdale went on a 10-2 run to lead 14-6 at the 4:28 mark. The Dragons responded with a 6-0 run fueled by two three-pointers from Brianna O'Connor and Aarion Nichols to bring the score to 14-12. The Dragons traded points with the visitors and ended the first quarter down 18-17.

In the second quarter, the Chargers went on a 4-0 run to take a 22-17 lead and extended their lead further over the next two minutes to lead 27-20. Tiffin countered with a 7-1 run to come within one of Hillsdale, 28-27 at the 5:03 mark. Hillsdale was able to outscore the Dragons the rest of the quarter 9-6 to lead 37-34 at halftime.

Coming out of halftime the Chargers went on a 9-0 run to take a 46-39 lead in the first four minutes of play. Tiffin traded points with the visitors the rest of the quarter but Hillsdale outscored the Dragons 24-14 in the quarter to lead 61-48.

The Chargers extended their lead to 15 points in the first five minutes of the final frame, but the Dragons countered with an 8-0 run to bring the score to 67-60 with 1:16 left in the game. Hillsdale held on to the lead and Tiffin ran out of time as the Chargers won 72-63.

Aarion Nichols, Kirsten Williams and Brianna O'Connor scored 14 points in the game with Nichols recording a double-double with 10 rebounds, shooting 3-for-7 from beyond the arc, six assists, and two steals, Williams shot 3-for-8 from the field, with three rebounds, and one assist, and O'Connor shot 5-for-11 from the field, and 4-for-8 from long range, recording two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Jada Tate registered 12 points shooting 6-for-15, grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
