Clutch Free Throws Put Tiffin Past Purdue Northwest 73-60

The Tiffin University women's basketball team defeated Purdue Northwest 73-60.

The Dragons made 27-of-33 free throws compared to 15-of-21 for the Pride. With the win, the Dragons improve to 3-3 overall, and the Pride fall to 2-3 overall.

Tiffin started the game hot going on a 10-2 run, but the Pride responded with a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 12-7. Purdue Northwest ended the first quarter on a 4-0 run to bring the lead down to 20-15.

The Pride continued their run into the second quarter, scoring the first four points to cut the Dragons lead to one at 20-19. Tiffin responded with an 8-1 run to lead 28-20. The teams traded points the rest of the way to halftime and the Dragons ended the first half up 39-31.

Again Purdue Northwest came out strong, scoring first and going on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 39-37. A three pointer by Sydney Bourquin ended the scoreless drought for Tiffin and sparked an 8-4 run to lead 47-41. The Pride closed the gap in the third, outscoring Tiffin 18-15 to cut the lead to 54-49 heading into the final frame.

Purdue Northwest was able to keep within five points of the Dragons in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter but the Dragons made clutch free throws late to open up a lead and went on a 10-4 run in the final minutes to win 73-60.

Aarion Nichols led the Dragons offense with 19 points shooting 6-for-12 from the field and 7-for-7 on free throws, grabbed nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals, Jada Tate recorded 13 points shooting 4-for-10 from the field and 5-for-8 from the charity stripe, had eight rebounds, and one assist, and Jessica Chase registered 10 points shooting 2-for-6 from the field, 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, had one rebound, one assist, and one steal.

Kirsten Williams tallied nine points shooting 3-for-7 from the field and nabbed nine rebounds and teammate Savanah Richards had eight points shooting 2-for-8 from the field, had two rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
