Wild 7th inning goes against Dragons in twinbill loss to Florida Tech

Tiffin University (2-10) came back to take a 7th inning lead in the nightcap at Florida Tech but could not hold the lead, falling 5-4 after dropping game one 15-2.

The Dragons found themselves down 3-0 heading to the sixth inning but came back to tie the game in the frame. Jenn Willis and Heidi Marshall walked, with a Caitlin Wilson fielder's choice resulting in TU having runners on 1st and 3rd with just one out. Brooke Lambert and Hayley Kobie then followed with RBI singles. With two out, Madie Legg also came through with a clutch single to tie the game 3-3.

TU took the lead in the 7th. Gabrielle Hess walked and came around to score on a throwing error by second base on Willis's sacrifice bunt attempt. TU had a chance to get another run in the inning as Willis advanced to third on the error, but a subsequent fielder's choice saw Willis getting thrown out at home by the second baseman.

Leading 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th, a walk, single, and intentional walk loaded the bases with one out. Tiffin, with 8 walks in the game, walked in a run to tie the game 4-4. Tiffin got the second out by throwing out a runner at home on a squeeze play, but another walk pushed the winning run across the plate for Florida Tech.

Sarah Klein took the loss, allowing 2 earned runs over 1.2 innings of relief along with 4 walks. Victoria Edwards started and went 5 innings, allowing just 1 earned run on 5 hits and 4 walks.

Lambert had 2 hits, as TU had 4 singles overall.

In the opener, everything went FTU's way, as they held TU to no hits and scored 8 runs in the first and 7 runs in the third in a 5-inning 15-2 victory.

Tiffin got its runs in the 5th inning. Walks by Taylor Diggins, Kobie and Logan Bush loaded the bases with no outs. One run came across on a wild pitch, while Chloe Swaisgood's groundout to shortstop got the second run across the plate.

Klein took the loss, lasting just one-third of an inning and allowing 6 earned runs. Shelbey Spurlock tossed 2 innings of relief, allowing 4 earned runs, while Hallie Sheehan finished up with 1.2 innings of work and no earned runs.
