TIFFIN, Ohio – After falling 4-1 to Ursuline College in game one, Tiffin softball emerged victorious in a wild game two, 5-4, to split with the Arrows on Monday afternoon.

The loss in the first contest snapped TU's eight game win streak, but after the game two win the Dragons move to 24-13 on the year and 14-6 in GMAC play.

Game one was the definition of a pitcher's duel, as the Dragons' Sarah Klein and the Arrows' Brooklyn Miller kept the contest scoreless through five innings.

Tiffin had runners reach scoring position in both the second and fourth innings, but their best chance through five came in the bottom of the fifth frame, when Heidi Marshall singled and Gabby Hess doubled to center to put two in scoring position with one out. Miller stepped up under pressure, though, getting a strikeout and a grounder to short to end the threat.

Ursuline finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the sixth, as Miller helped her own cause on the mound with a two-run homer. The Arrows added one more in the inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Jamie Sevenish led off the bottom of the inning with a triple over the head of the Arrow center fielder, and came in to score on a Chloe Swaisgood single to cut the deficit to two.

The Arrows pushed their lead back to three with a run in the top of the seventh, and TU could not mount a comeback as they fell 4-1.

The Dragons wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard in game two, as Hayley Kobie drove in Sevenish on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.

Things got very interesting in the bottom of the fourth, as Tiffin managed to score three runs without recording a hit. Swaisgood walked with one out, and Hess reached on an error that allowed her to get to second and Swaisgood to move to third. Marshall then hit a grounder to the shortstop, who fired home to try to catch Swaisgood attempting to score. Caught between third and home, Swaisgood somehow managed to evade a tag and score, while Hess moved to third and Marshall to second.

After a fielder's choice out at home, the Dragons again had runners at second and third with two outs. The first pitch to Abbey Zedaker got past the catcher, and both runners were able to score as the ball got away from the pitcher covering the plate to give TU a 4-0 lead.

Brooke Lambert made it 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single, but Ursuline was able to get one back on a solo homer off the bat of Leah Leshnack in the top of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Ursuline put a lot of pressure on Tiffin, cutting the lead to just one with three runs on four hits, but the Dragons were able to hang on for the 5-4 win.

TU will play their final home games of the 2019 season on Wednesday when they host Lake Erie for Senior Day.
