Cameron Burrows became the 16th Tiffin University men's track and field athlete to win a national title, as he topped the field in the long jump competition.

Burrows got the Dragons off to a strong start at the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Championships hosted by Grand Valley State University, taking first with a leap of 7.74 meters. The distance beat second-place Kizan David of Lincoln (7.66).

Burrows outdid himself in the final, as he previously had been ranked 12th in the nation with a best of 7.55 entering the championships.

With the win, Burrows also became just the third Dragons track athlete to win an outdoor title. He has now amassed 9 All American honors (6 in high jump, 3 in long jump) between indoor and outdoor competition.

Burrows will also compete in the high jump May 28 at 2 pm, where he is ranked 3rd entering the final.

In preliminary action, Lenell Shelby III finished 9th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.90. The 400 meters final is scheduled for Saturday, May 29.
