Burrows & Curtiss Honored as Academic All-District

CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

On Friday afternoon, CoSIDA announced the 2019-20 Academic All-District teams for track & field/cross country, and Tiffin's Cameron Burrows and Nikolas Curtiss have both been selected for the award.

The Academic All-District teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Honorees selected Academic All-District advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Division II Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 24.

Burrows and Curtiss are the only pair of teammates selected to the DII District 4 Academic All-District squad, which is made up of programs from the GLIAC, GLVC, and GMAC. One student-athlete apiece from Ashland, Saginaw Valley, Malone, William Jewell, Southern Indiana, Illinois-Springfield, Grand Valley, and Missouri S&T complete the 10 District 4 honorees.

Burrows earns the award for the third-straight year after another incredible season in a Dragon uniform. He wrapped up the year with a 3.72 cumulative GPA in Management.

Athletically, Burrows qualified for the championships at No. 1 in Division II in the high jump at 2.19 meters. The senior also made the cut to compete in the long jump (No. 7, 7.51 meters) and heptathlon (tied at No. 7, 5,381 points), earning three All-American honors from the USTFCCCA after the championships were canceled. In his career, Burrows has now recorded 10 All-American honors, seven during indoor nationals, including his highest-ever finish last year at third in the high jump.

Curtiss notches his first Academic All-District honor after bringing his cumulative GPA to 3.66 as a Sports Management major.

During 2019-20, the thrower qualified for the third-straight indoor season and fifth time overall in his Tiffin career between the shot put and weight throw. His mark of 19.40 meters led Division II for most of the year prior to the final week of the indoor season, after which he was set to enter the championships with the second-best distance. All five of his NCAA qualifications have now resulted in shot put All-American honors, including a second-place finish at 2018 outdoors.
