Tiffin Takes Big Lead After Day One of GMAC Championships

TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin men's track & field earned five medals on Day One of the GMAC Championships, highlighted by a clean sweep of the long jump and two breakthrough performances in the weight throw and 5000m run.

With four events scored after Day One, Tiffin is leading the way with 53 total points, 21 more than second-place Walsh. There are still plenty of points to be had on Saturday, as 13 more events will finish on the second day.

The Dragon long jump squad backed up their DII No. 1 event squad ranking by finishing first, second, third, and fourth. Cameron Burrows led the way with a new PR of 7.51 meters that is the fourth-best in GMAC history and should move the senior into the top-10 nationally in the event heading into the NCAA Championships. Quincy Scott followed with a mark of 7.31 meters to earn the silver, with Dorian Holida taking bronze at 6.92 meters and Josiah Gadson coming in fourth at 6.78 meters.

Seeded eighth coming into the championships, Jacob McPherson obliterated his PR in the weight throw with a toss of 18.29 meters that earned second place. The mark surpassed his previous career-best by nearly a meter and a half.

Josh Jaster put forth a very impressive showing in the 5000m run, making a late pass of Hillsdale's Adam Weir to finish second and earn the silver with a time of 15:07.50.

Errik Snell notched another provisional mark in the 60m hurdles prelims, earning the top seed in the final with a time of 8.09 seconds. Nathanael Wilson (5th), Thomas Zor (6th), and Lenell Shelby III (7th) also each earned spots in Saturday's final.

Tiffin made their mark on the 60m dash prelims as well, with four qualifying for tomorrow's final. Jonte Baker won the prelims with a time of 6.81 seconds, followed by Elijah Gauldin (3rd, 6.93), Brandon Lynn (4th, 6.95), and Quincy Scott (5th, 6.98).

Joshua Page qualified for Saturday's 400m dash final with a time of 50.51 seconds that placed second in the prelims. 

Page (4th, 22.63), Baker (6th, 22.67), and Lynn (7th, 22.82) each also qualified for Saturday's 200m dash final.

Tiffin's DMR squad placed fourth out of eight teams with a time of 10:38.39.

Through four events in the heptathlon, Justus White is in fifth with 2,431 points, Davis Reinhard in seventh with 2,355 points, and Steele Butzin in eighth with 2,271 points.
