Six track/cross alumni to be honored at Carry the Torch Awards

Six Tiffin University track and field/cross country alumni will be honored at the 2019 Carry the Torch Awards Dinner at 6:30 pm on Dec. 13 in the Marion Center.

The awards, which began in 2018, honor significant athletes and supporters of track and field/cross country. This year's honorees are:

Patrick Manders '06 - Current school record holder outdoor 800m (1:52.16)/6th all-time outdoor conference total points scored (58.75)...Graduated school record holder in 500m, 600m, 800m (current), 400m (outdoor)...Still top 10 all-time indoor 400m...3-time NAIA National Qualifier.

Bobby Petras '03 - AMC scorer in the 2001 HJ (7th) and 4x100 SR (3rd)...Held the school record in the indoor and outdoor High Jump when he graduated in 2003 and held the outdoor record until 2007...2002 Independent Football Alliance Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team IFA Defensive Back.

Ryan Speakes '07/'12 - 4th all-time outdoor conference total points scored (72)...Graduated as #2 Outdoor Long Jump and Triple Jump...Graduated as #2 Indoor Long Jump and Triple Jump.

Victoria Speakes '07/'09 - 50th all-time outdoor conference total points scored (4)...7th in 100 and 200m in 2004...School record holder in the 100m until 2009...3rd all-time in the 200m when she graduated...Held the school record in the indoor 60m in 2005 and sat 2nd all time in the indoor 200m until 2008.
 
Tony Trevino '02 - First signee in TUTF history.....a dedicated Dragon for Life who helped build the foundation of the cross country/track and field program...a devoted supporter of the program whose contributions have continued long after his athletic career ended...has enthusiastically spread the word about TUTF for nearly 20 years. 
 
Jason Werling '07/'12 - 2nd all-time outdoor conference total points scored (90)...Graduated as the school record holder in the Shot Put (Indoor and Outdoor), Discus Throw, and #2 in the Hammer and #35 Weight Throw.
