Dragons lose tough double overtime contest to SVSU 2-1

Tiffin University (0-2) battled throughout the game but could not get its first victory of the season in its home opener, falling in double overtime to Saginaw Valley State 2-1.

The Dragons opened the scoring in the 28th minute as Joel Daly took a pass from Caleb Gibbons and knocked it home to go ahead 1-0.

The Cardinals answered in the 36th minute, as Chidie Nnolim took a long pass from Cody Miller and struck it past TU goalkeeper Declan Lehman to tie the score 1-1.

The game was evenly matched in shots and corner kicks throughout the second half, but a second yellow card left the Dragons a man down over the closing minutes of the second half.

The Cardinals continued to press the advantage but could not score through the first overtime.

SVSU finally put the game away with 5:03 left in the second overtime, as Brady Walker put a ball in the left corner off a pass from Danny Barlow for the win.

The Dragons now take on Northwood Sept. 12 at 2:30 pm.
