Tiffin University's men's golf team won its first GMAC Championship with a narrow 3-2 decision in medal match play over the University of Findlay.

It marks the first conference championship since TU won back-to-back GLIAC titles in 2015-16 and 2014-15. The win also sends Tiffin to the NCAA Super Regional at Purgatory Golf Course in Noblesville, Indiana May 5-7.

The Dragons set the course on fire in the third round, shooting a field-best 282. The mark was 20 strokes better than their round-two score and gave them a 878 three-round total. It also placed them second overall to Findlay's total of 875 and set up a medal match play showdown between the two schools.

In the medal match play round, TU edged the Oilers 3-2. Nico Kyprian won his head-to-head match by one stroke, while David Siegel won by four strokes. Matt Flynn fell by 5 strokes, and Noah Barth fell by a single stroke, leaving the title in the hands of Michael Weppernig. Weppernig trailed by a stroke heading to the final hole but came back strong to win his round by a single stroke and give TU the championship.

Weppernig finished third overall, firing a blistering school-record 18-hole total of 65 in the third round to total 212. Kyprian tied for 10th, shooting 70 in the third round to finish with 220.

Flynn was 15th with 223 (73-76-74), Barth shot 225 (75-76-74), and Siegel totaled 226 (74-79-73).

Weppernig also landed All GMAC honors with his third place finish, while Kyprian earned his second consecutive Elite 25 honor at the championships, posting the top GPA amongst the competitors. Launched for the first time in the 2020-21 school year, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Elite 25 Award aims to recognize student-athletes at the pinnacle of their sport, both athletically and academically. Each sport is presented with one men's and women's individual winner with the highest cumulative GPA from a championship-qualifying program.

"The round the guys shot this morning to get us into medal match play was so clutch," said Head Coach Jacob Miller. "Hands down the best round of the entire season given the situation. I think that freed them up for our championship medal match play this afternoon. They were hot and it showed. Findlay is such a great team with two incredible coaches. We knew it would be tight coming down the stretch and the guys pulled through. We are so happy for them. It's time to finish the semester off strong in the classroom and then three weeks until regionals."
