Tiffin University Head Coach Jacob Miller is headed to the US Amateur Championships, the largest amateur golf event in the world.

On Monday, July 12th at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio, 84 players teed it up for a chance to qualify for the largest amateur golf event in the world, the United States Amateur Championships. With only 2 players getting through the qualifier, Miller punched his ticket.

With conditions and setup being extremely testing, TPC River's Bend produced the highest qualifying scores amongst all qualifying sites across the world. Miller posted a 36 hole total of +1,145 to finish solo in second place and secure his spot in the US Am.

The United States Amateur run by the United States Golf Association is arguably the largest, most prestigious amateur event in golf. There are roughly 10,000 players who try to qualify all around the world every year. The final field is made up of the top 312 amateurs who qualified for the event. They will play 36 holes of stroke play at Oakmont Country Club and Longue Vue Club located near Pittsburgh, PA.

After 36 holes of stroke play, there will be a cut to the top 64 players who will make the match play, bracket-style format. Over the next 5 days, those top 64 competitors will be dwindled down and will play head-to-head matches with hopes of making it to the finals on Sunday where the final two will battle it out for some massive honors. The winner and second place of the United States Amateur will receive exemptions into the 2022 Masters Tournament, The United States Open, and The Open Championship.

"I had some players early this spring ask me if I wanted to join them and try to qualify for the US Amateur this summer. I was hesitant considering I haven't practiced much since becoming a college golf coach 6 years ago and I haven't even attempted any USGA qualifier in over 5 years. The qualifier was one of the hardest, longest setups I have ever played. It was very mentally draining but was all worth it that night. I can't thank everyone enough for all the kind messages and words of encouragement I have received over the last few weeks. I am extremely excited to tee it up with some of the best players in the world next week and have fun competing!" said Miller.

Play will begin this upcoming Monday, August 9th. Miller is guaranteed two rounds of stroke play this Monday and Tuesday with hopes of making it to match play starting Wednesday. The event will be nationally televised starting Wednesday on NBC.
