Dragons fall to Maryville 72-61 in season opener

Tiffin University (0-1) chased Maryville most of the night but could not hold onto a second-half lead, falling 72-61 at the G-MAC/GLVC Crossover in North Canton, Ohio.

Poor shooting doomed TU, as Maryville hit at a 50 percent clip from the field while TU managed 33 percent. Maryville also outrebounded TU 42-33.

Maryville jumped ahead by 10 points early. Up 13-9, Maryville went on a 8-2 run that put them up 21-11. They finished the half up 40-30.

TU made things interesting in the second half, as the Dragons opened on a 17-8 burst that brought them to within 48-47.

TU twice took one-point leads but, tied 57-57 with 7:00 left, Maryville went on a 15-4 run to close out the game and secure the win.

Wesley Jordan led TU with 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Joshua Rivers had 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Carius Key also reached double digits with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Morgan Taylor had 8 points and 5 rebounds.

Tiffin will now take on Missouri-St. Louis at 1 pm on Nov. 12.
