Men’s Basketball Lose to Findlay in Overtime Thriller

Tiffin University (10-18, 5-15 GMAC) came up short in overtime, falling 82-81 in an intense game against Findlay.

The Dragons and the Oilers tied in rebounds 38-38, while Findlay led shooting 54.8 percent from the field for the game while the Dragons shot 39.7 percent from the field.

The Oilers started the game strong, jumping out to a 9-5 lead within the first four minutes of play. The Dragons went on a 15-5 run to take a 20-14 lead at the 9:29 mark of the first. The Oilers responded with a 7-1 run to cut the lead to 27-25 with 5:23 left in the first half. Tiffin kept their lead and held onto a 36-33 lead at the half.

Tiffin came out at halftime strong, increasing their lead with a 7-4 run to lead 43-37 in the first three minutes of the half. The Oilers responded with a 12-3 run to take a 49-46 lead with 12:06 left in regulation.

The Oilers went on to extend their lead further to a 59-54 lead with 7:09 left in the second half, but the Dragons responded with a quick 5-0 run to tie the game at 59-59 with 5:35 in regulation. The two teams stayed within one possession of each other for the rest of the game. Leading 67-65, the Oilers made a layup tying the game 67-67 and a missed 3-point shot by Trent Williams took the game to overtime.

Tiffin and Findlay went back and forth with the Oilers holding a slight advantage until Wesley Jordan hit a monster dunk as he was fouled to give the Dragons a one-point lead at 75-74 with 2:36 left in the game. After two made free throws by Findlay, the Dragons went on a 5-0 run with a Tylin Locket-Fuller three and a steal and dunk from Thomas Hickman to lead 80-76. Findlay responded with a 4-0 run to tie the game at 80-80 with 38 seconds left in overtime. Dalaino Walker got to the free-throw line and went 1-for-2 and Findlay made a layup to lead with six seconds left. The Dragons threw up a late unsuccessful layup to fall 82-81 to Findlay.

Wesley Jordan led the Dragons with 20 points shooting 8-for-11 from the field, grabbed six rebounds, and had one block, Trent Williams registered 12 points from the bench shooting 4-for-7 from the three-point line, had four rebounds, and four assists, and Thomas Hickman recorded 12 points shooting 5-for-10 from the field, a team-high six assists, three rebounds, and one steal.   

Morgan Taylor added 10 points shooting 3-for-5 from the field, two rebounds, one assist, and two steals, and Dalaino Walker had eight points, five rebounds, and two steals.
