Closing seconds not kind to Dragons in 81-77 setback

For the second game in a row, Tiffin University (5-11, 1-8 GMAC) suffered a tough setback in the closing seconds on the road, this time falling at Cedarville 81-77.

The game, which saw 26 ties and 24 lead changes, was as close as could be. With Cedarville up 79-77, TU had a chance to sink two free throws with 3 seconds remaining that would have tied the game. After missing the first, the Dragons tried to grab the rebound after missing the next shot but were called for an offensive foul. Cedarville's subsequent free throws put the game out of reach.

TU and Cedarville were equal in nearly every team statistic. TU outshot CU 50 percent to 49 percent, with both teams shooting 38 percent from three point. Cedarville edged TU in rebounds 34-32, and both teams had just 9 turnovers each.

TU had a chance in the first half to build a sizable lead. Trailing 9-5 early, TU put together a 7-0 run to go up 12-9. After the game reached a 14-14 tie, TU again put a 7-0 run together to lead 21-14.

The Dragons continued to play well in the half, amassing a 32-20 lead with 5:30 remaining, but the Yellow Jackets closed out the half with a massivve 16-4 run to tie the game at the half 36-36.

Throughout the second half, both teams stayed within a bucket of each other for the entire half.

Morgan Taylor led the Dragons with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Trent Williams had 17 points and 4 assists.

Wesley Jordan totaled 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks, Tylin Lockett-Fuller added 11 points with 8 rebounds and 4 steals, and Tanner Johnson posted 8 points with 7 rebounds.
