Dragons fall in narrow thriller 80-75 at Walsh

Tiffin University (5-10, 1-7 GMAC) put up a fight for 40 minutes at Walsh but could not walk away with the victory, falling 80-75.

Walsh got off to a strong start and looked ready to take control of the game after opening with a 14-6 lead. The Dragons responded quickly, however, going on a 9-0 run to take a 15-14 lead with 11:36 left in the first half.

Both teams stayed within one or two buckets of each other throughout the remainder of the first half, with Walsh taking a narrow 41-36 lead at the halftime break.

The two teams continued to match each other, with both squads shooting 45.8 percent from the field for the game. 

Tied 72-72 with 5:00 left, Walsh put together a slim 6-2 streak that gave them a 78-75 lead with 43 seconds left. After Walsh missed a shot, the Dragons grabbed the rebound and quickly moved downcourt with a chance to tie the game but a layup did not fall with 14 seconds left. A couple of Walsh free throws sealed the win for the Cavaliers.

Walsh edged TU in rebounding 43-37 while also holding a 10-2 lead at the free throw line. Tiffin went 2-for-5 from the line overall.

Morgan Taylor had 13 points with 5 rebounds, Luke Johnson had 10 points with 6 assists, and Tylin Lockett-Fuller finished with 7 points.
