Dragons Win Home Opener 91-79 against Kentucky State

The Tiffin University men's basketball team defeated Kentucky State 91-79, with Tiffin's bench play shining in the win by scoring 47 points compared to the Thorobreds' 27 bench points.  

The game started off fast with both teams playing up tempo. TU jumped out to a 7-4 lead early on. Kentucky State then went on a 7-3 run to take an 11-10 lead, but Tiffin countered with an 8-3 run to lead 18-13. 

Both teams traded points but the Dragons were able to hold a two-possession lead and went on an 11-4 run to lead 37-27 with four minutes to go in the first half. Tiffin held a comfortable lead at the end of the half, leading 46-38.

The Thorobreds came out strong in the second half and were able to slowly chip away at the Dragons' lead, coming within four points at 60-56 after a 5-0 run by the visitors. Tiffin quickly responded with a 7-2 run to lead 67-58. 

Kentucky State had a late surge in the last five minutes to bring them within eight of Tiffin but the Dragons were able to build up their lead to as many as 15 points and were able to win 91-79.

Tiffin's offense was led by Ian Lopez who tallied 19 points shooting 7-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, had seven rebounds, and two assists, and Devaughn Munson scored 15 points shooting 6-for-10 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point territory, with four assists, one rebound, and one steal. Tanner Johnson had 14 points shooting 5-for-10 from the field and 2-for-7 from long, grabbed four rebounds, one assist, and one block and Morgan Taylor registered 12 points shooting 5-for-12 from the field, two rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
