Johnson Signs with Men's Basketball

Tiffin men's basketball has announced the signing of graduate transfer Tanner Johnson to add to their 2020 recruiting class.

A 6'5" wing/forward originally from Lexington, Ky., Johnson will make the move to Tiffin after graduating from Division I Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. He has eligibility remaining after redshirting during his senior season at Bryant.

"Tanner is going to bring a number of positive attributes to our program and I'm delighted he decided to join Dragon Nation," said head coach Tom Church. "Tanner is an experienced veteran that is going to bring offensive firepower from the perimeter as he has been known as a three-point specialist throughout his career. Tanner has the work ethic, toughness, attitude, and leadership as a senior to continue to help build our program's culture."

Johnson saw the bulk of his action during his sophomore and junior years at Bryant, appearing in 24 games in 2017-18 and 23 games in 2018-19. During his sophomore year, he averaged 6.1 points per game and 1.4 rebounds per game while shooting 34.6% from deep, including 10.1 points per game during his seven starts.

Johnson prepped at both Lexington Catholic and Worcester Academy before attending Bryant. He is the seventh all-time leading scorer at Lexington Catholic with over 1,700 points and holds the records for most triples made in a season and a career. At Worcester Academy, he was two-time First Team All-City while averaging 15.5 points per game.

"I chose Tiffin University because I felt really comfortable with Coach Church and his offensive system," said Johnson. "Playing at Tiffin will allow me to stay closer to home and also an opportunity to get my Graduate Degree in Finance."
