Dragons Fall to Fighting Scots at Home

TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin men's basketball led by seven at the half, but Ohio Valley shot nearly 60% from beyond the arc in the second half to take an 86-81 victory on Thursday night.

Trailing 31-27 with four minutes left in the opening period, the Dragons turned things on for the remainder of the half with a 13-2 run that was made up of seven points by Jairus Stevens and six by Wesley Jordan.

After a Brevin Brimble triple extended the Tiffin lead to 14, 52-38, with under four minutes into the second period, it seemed like the Dragons were on their way to their second win over the Fighting Scots on the year.

However, Ohio Valley responded with a 21-2 run that gave the visitors a five-point lead, 59-54, with ten minutes to play. During the run, the Fighting Scots hit six of seven attempted threes.

OVU extended their lead to as many as 12 before a last-gasp Tiffin run cut the deficit to three, 83-80, on a Brimble triple with 22 seconds left. That was as close as TU would come though, as Ohio Valley made a few free throws to take the five-point win.

Tiffin held the advantage in turnovers with 19 forced and 11 committed, but Ohio Valley had the edge by shooting 48% (12-25) from deep as well as just over 50% from the field.

Jairus Stevens led the Dragons with 21 points and six rebounds, shooting 9-12 from the field. Austin Schaub added 16 points and five assists, while Wesley Jordan and Thomas Hickman had 11 points apiece.

Trent Williams also had 10 points to round out five double-digit scorers for Tiffin.

The Dragons will travel to Hillsdale on Saturday before finishing out the season next Saturday with Senior Day at home against Kentucky Wesleyan.
