Dragons Rally for Overtime Win at Urbana

URBANA, Ohio - Tiffin men's basketball overcame a 12-point first-half deficit to force overtime and steal a road victory over Urbana 76-71 on Friday night.

The Blue Knights used a late run to take a 34-22 lead at the break, but the Dragons quickly rallied with the first 11 points of the second period to tighten things up for the rest of the game.

Tiffin took the lead at the 14:23 mark on a Josh Williams layup, and the run extended into a 45-36 advantage with 12:31 remaining. The second half opening run, spanning eight minutes, totalled to 23-2 in favor of the Dragons as the visitors reversed a 12-point deficit to a nine-point advantage.

Tiffin would hold on to the lead all the way until there were just 20 seconds left, when Urbana capped a 10-2 run with a triple to tie the game at 65. Jairus Stevens put TU back in the lead on a layup with five seconds to play, but Urbana's Shaunn Monroe was fouled at the last second on a three to give the Blue Knights a chance to win the game at the free throw line.

However, Monroe was only able to make two out of three, sending the game into overtime.

Stevens and Joshua Williams took over from there, though, scoring eight of Tiffin's nine points in overtime while the defense held Urbana to just four, giving the Dragons the five-point win.

Stevens led TU with a season-high 27 points on 11-16 shooting, registering his fourth double-double of the year with 11 rebounds as well. Wesley Jordan also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, while Josh Williams added 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Tiffin outshot Urbana 43% to 35%, but struggled from deep in the game with just three made triples on 19 attempts. The Dragons made up for it with great control of the ball, only turning it over 10 times while also holding a 44-36 advantage in the paint and a 15-10 favorable margin on the break.

The Dragons wrap up the 2019 calendar year on Sunday when they travel to Evansville to take on No. 16 Southern Indiana at 3:00 p.m. ET.
