Shooting Woes Doom Dragons at Trevecca

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tiffin struggled to get much going offensively for most of game Thursday night, falling 72-66 to Trevecca Nazarene in the conference opener.

The Dragons came into the evening averaging 88.9 points per game, dipping far below their average. Tiffin shot just 30.5% from the field and 17.5% from deep in the contest, while the Trojans hit on 40% (10-25) of their three-point attempts and 46.7% of field goals.

Tiffin held a huge advantage in turnovers, committing just 10 while forcing 20 from the Trojans, but the poor shooting proved to be too much to overcome.

Joshua Williams led the Dragons with 16 points and seven rebounds. Wesley Jordan and Jairus Stevens were also both in double figures with 11 points apiece, with Stevens also adding 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

The Dragons fell behind early, as Trevecca took a 16-8 lead at the 11:50 mark of the first half. Tiffin then turned things around, scoring seven in a row to cut the deficit to one on a Trent Williams triple at the 10:12 mark.

Tiffin took the lead five minutes later as Jamaal Clifton threw down a dunk off a nice feed from Stevens. The Dragons kept that lead for the rest of the half, taking a 28-24 advantage into the break.

The Dragons grabbed their biggest lead of the game at 35-29 on a Jordan three two minutes into the second period, but the Trojans battled back to tie the game at 38 with 13:40 remaining.

Tiffin was able to hold off Trevecca for four more minutes, but the Trojans took a 53-51 lead with just under ten minutes to play. TNU would grow their advantage to as much as 11 before a late Tiffin surge cut the deficit to six, 71-66, with 28 seconds to go on a deep, rainbow three from Trent Williams.

The Dragons were unable to find the bottom of the net from there, however, and the Trojans added a free throw before the final buzzer to take the six-point win.

Tiffin will look to bounce back on Saturday as they head back to Owensboro for the second weekend in a row to take on Kentucky Wesleyan, with opening tip scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.
