Dragons Dominate Lakers in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - There may not be a hotter team in Division II baseball to start the 2020 season, as Tiffin won their seventh in a row to begin the year with a 14-2 rout in seven innings over Grand Valley.

The Dragons got it done both at the plate and on the mound, registering 17 hits while allowing just seven. Offensively, Tiffin also had the same number of home runs as strikeouts, launching four bombs over the fence to highlight the scoring.

The barrage started early, as Tiffin picked up two runs on an error and sacrifice fly in the first. In the third, the Dragons added two more with RBI doubles from Hunter Havekost and Danny Donnelly

The Lakers cut the deficit in half with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but the Dragons countered with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Cody Orr starting things off with a two-run homer to left, followed by a Zach Campbell RBI triple and Havekost singling home Campbell from third.

Tiffin picked up two more runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to bring the score to 14-2, with Campbell, Nich Green, and Orr all going deep.

Tyler Wehrle started for the Dragons and got the win with four innings of work, allowing four hits, two runs, and two walks while striking out six. Gunnar Boehm entered in the fifth and threw three scoreless innings for the save, allowing just three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Orr finished with a career-high five RBI on the day, going 2-5 with both hits leaving the park. Campbell was a perfect 4 for 4 with four runs scored and two RBI, while Havekost picked up three RBI on two hits.
