2019 NCBWA All-Midwest Region Team

Tiffin baseball senior John Heckman has been named to the 2019 Midwest Region Second Team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The outfielder receives the honor after having one of the greatest seasons offensively in Dragon history, leading the team in at-bats (211), hits (75), doubles (23), home runs (9), RBI (64), total bases (131), and slugging percentage (.621). His RBI and doubles marks led the GMAC as well, and he was third in hits and eighth in slugging in the conference.

In TU single-season history, Heckman's numbers rank first in at-bats, tied for second in hits, tied for first in doubles, second in RBI, and first in total bases.

This year, Heckman helped lead the Dragons to one of their most successful seasons ever, and the best finish since Tiffin joined Division II. After a slow start to the year, TU rallied to make the GMAC Tournament as the seven-seed, upset four teams to win their first-ever conference title, and went on to win two NCAA Tournament games and be just one win away from reaching Super Regionals in the school's first NCAA postseason appearance.

During the incredible run in the month of May, Heckman's numbers were off the charts, as in 12 games he hit .436 (24-55) with 11 runs scored, eight doubles, a triple, three homers, 24 RBI, and a .782 slugging percentage. Most notably, he came up with his hits at the best moments, recording two RBI per game over that stretch.

He also finishes his Tiffin career sixth in career slugging percentage with a mark of .564.
