Orr, Heckman Sweep GMAC Weekly Honors

INDIANAPOLIS - After leading the team to the GMAC Championship last weekend, Tiffin baseball's Cody Orr (Pitcher) and John Heckman (Player) notched both conference baseball athlete of the week honors.

In addition to being one of the best hitters in the postseason, Orr made his mark on the pitcher's mound while helping Tiffin carve out a path to an eventual championship trophy.

Orr went the distance for a nine-inning complete game against No. 5 Kentucky Wesleyan. He struck out 10 hitters, walked just one, and gave up three runs on seven hits. It was a critical victory in the winner's bracket with both teams at 2-0 looking to earn a trip to the conference championship series.

Orr also batted .600 manning the leadoff position in the batting order with six RBI and a pair of extra-base hits.

Heckman earned player of the week honors for the second time in a row after the No. 7 seed Dragons finished 4-0 at Prasco Park in their first experience at the Great Midwest Championship. The senior batted .474 and went 9-for-19 at the plate with eight RBI. He had two doubles and a triple while drawing a walk and scoring two runs.

While run-ruling No. 3 Trevecca Nazarene, Heckman doubled twice and had four RBI in a 15-4 win in the second round of the winner's bracket. In the championship game on Saturday, Heckman went 2-for-3 with two RBI. He drove in the first run of the game and the last while also making the final out with a catch in right field to trigger the postseason celebration.

Both Orr and Heckman were first team all-conference selections as voted upon by the coaches.
