Errors Hurt Dragons, Fall to Pioneers

TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin baseball fell in a battle of the two hottest teams in the G-MAC on Wednesday, as Malone defeated the Dragons 4-2.

TU outhit the Pioneers 8-6 in the game, but four Dragon errors led to two unearned Pioneer runs that proved to be the difference.

The Dragons entered the game winners of six of their last seven, but with the win Malone took their 15th victory in their last 16 games as they sit atop the G-MAC standings. Fortunately for TU, the contest does not count towards the conference standings though, as it was technically billed as a nonconference affair.

Malone got on the board first in the top of the second with one earned run and one unearned run off Tiffin starter Michael Ross. The Dragons cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third, when Brayden Callihan scored on a John Heckman RBI double down the left field line.

The Pioneers added a run in the top of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead, and again the Dragons immediately got back to within one as Zach Campbell drove in Cody Orr with an RBI double in the bottom of the frame.

That would be all TU was able to put on the scoreboard, though, as Malone added an unearned run in the eighth and hung on for the 4-2 win.

Heckman tallied two hits and an RBI in the game to lead the Dragons offensively.

Tiffin will now have a week off to rest before returning to action next Wednesday for a nonconference game at Gannon.
