Dragons Bested By Warriors in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Tiffin baseball nearly came back from a six-run deficit with a five-run seventh, but Wayne State pulled away in the late innings to take a 13-5 victory on Friday afternoon.

The Dragons fall to 1-3 in the early going of 2019, and will turn around and play Wayne State again on the same field in a doubleheader on Sunday.

Jake Monnin got the start for TU, and after giving up four runs (two earned) in the first two innings, settled down to blank the Warriors through the next four frames.

However, the Dragon bats were silent for the first six innings of play, and Wayne State was able to add two more runs in the top of the seventh to go up 6-0.

TU began to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning, as Havekost got the Dragons on the board with an RBI single. After a couple of walks, Henry Delgado smacked a pinch-hit, two-run double to left to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Two outs later, Zach Campbell came through with a two-RBI triple and was thrown out at home attempting an inside-the-park homer, but not before Tiffin had trimmed the Warrior lead to just one, 6-5.

That was as close as the Dragons would come, though, as Wayne State added seven more runs in the eighth and ninth innings to take the 13-5 win.
