Tiffin University had a big day at the WCWA Nationals held in Marietta, Georgia, upsetting some top seeds and landing five All Americans heading to tomorrow's finals.
Three TU grapplers are still in the championship brackets, reaching semifinal action on day two.
Sugey Ceja (109) picked up a 10-0 tech fall win over Jamestown and a 12-2 win over Presbyterian to reach the semis. She will take on top-seeded Augsburg in the semis.
Savannah Stacks (123) also is unbeaten after three matches, reaching the semis with a win by fall in 2:53 over Central Methodist, a big 17-4 win over Presbyterian, and a huge upset of 3rd-seed Eastern Oregon 4-0. She will face 2nd-seed Life University in the final four.
Taylor Hites (155) also had three wins to reach the final four. She downed Eastern Oregon 5-1, then pinned Umpqua in 2:05. Her biggest win came next, an upset of 2nd-seed Jamestown 6-4. She will now take on 3rd-seed Oklahoma City in the semis.
Two other Dragons are battling through the consolations. Eunique Davis (136) opened with a loss by fall to Big Bend in 37 seconds but bounced back wins by pin over Life in 1:40 and a 10-0 tech fall over Campbellsville. She will now take on Presbyterian tomorrow in the consolation quarterfinals.
Jessie Lee (191) followed up a forfeit win over Jamestown with a 4-0 win over Schreiner. She fell in a high scoring 17-11 loss to Life and will now take on Central Methodist in the consolation quarters.
By finishing in the top eight spots in their weight bracket, Ceja, Stacks, Hites, Davis, and Lee are guaranteed of All American status.
Ariah Snyder was the only other Dragons wrestler to pick up a win, pinning Life in 2:54 at 136 pounds. She also had slim loss to Adrian 4-0 and Campbellsville 2-0. Sidney Ramos (143) lost to Gannon 5-2 and Campbellsville (1:07), Natalia Sovero (116) fell by tech fall to Texas Wesleyan and Schreiner, and Stephanie Mondragon (130) lost by tech fall to Jamestown and Umpqua.
