Hurles Receives AVCA Thirty Under 30 Honor

AVCA Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its 2020 Thirty Under 30 Award recipients on Monday morning, and Tiffin's Shauna Hurles has been selected for the honor.

Of the 30 award winners, Hurles was one of just two from the NCAA Division II ranks, joining UW-Parkside's Leigh Barea. In addition, she was one of just three head coaches across Divisions I and II to receive the prestigious honor. Eleven DI assistant coaches were also named to the list.

The award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport. To qualify for the award, nominees had to be younger than 30 years old in 2019.

"I'm honored to receive this award," said Hurles. "It's an even bigger pleasure earning this award while at Tiffin University with my staff and student-athletes. The work I have put in, as well as my staff and athletes, have put our program on the right track. I hope to move forward to become a better coach and help my student-athletes reach their highest potential."

In her three seasons at the helm of Tiffin volleyball, Hurles has compiled an overall record of 60-37 (.619), including a 35-12 mark in conference play across one GLIAC season and two GMAC seasons.

The Dragons have also qualified for the conference postseason all three years, with the appearance in 2017 being the first time since TU joined Division II. In 2018, Tiffin's 21 wins set a new record for most wins during a Division II season. Last year in 2019, Tiffin went 10-2 in GMAC play and advanced to the conference final for the first time in the program's DII history.

During her three-year tenure, Hurles' student-athletes have received nine All-Conference awards, three All-Region honors, and the program's first-ever All-American in 2019 when Jenna Huffman was named to both the AVCA and D2CCA All-American squads.
