Dragons Wrap Up Play at Midwest Crossover

INDIANAPOLIS - The 2019 Midwest Crossover came to a close on Saturday, with Tiffin volleyball dropping matches to Indianapolis and Bellarmine on the final day.

The Dragons faced UIndy first in the morning, taking a wild first set but falling in the next three to lose 3-1 (29-27, 19-25, 20-25, 16-25). In the second game of the day, TU was swept by Bellarmine 25-21, 27-25, .

A highlight of the day came in the first match, as senior Jenna Huffman moved into second-place on Tiffin's all-time kills list, passing Mary Lanker '94, and currently has 1,496 and counting for her career.

Down 24-18 in the first set of the match against UIndy, the Dragons rallied with six-straight points to even things at 24. Loryn Huffman had two kills during the run, while Jenna Huffman had a kill and an ace. After trading points with the Greyhounds for a few rallies, Tiffin got back-to-back scores with an Alicia Kessler kill and a UIndy attack error to take the set 29-27.

The Dragons were unable to ride that momentum for the rest of the match, however, dropping the next three sets with a high point total of 20.

Jenna Huffman led TU with 17 kills, three aces, and four blocks. Grace Schreiber also had ten kills and five blocks, while Loryn Huffman had 36 assists, 13 digs, and four blocks. Sam Fallis led the Dragon defense with 18 digs.

Tiffin hung with Bellarmine for the most part through all three sets, but could not come out on top in any in the end. Set two was the closest, as TU took a 25-24 lead late, but the Knights recorded three-straight kills to take the set.

Kyndall Hellyer led the Dragons in the second game with 11 kills and a .348 hitting percentage. Loryn Huffman added 26 assists and 10 digs for Tiffin.

TU next jumps back into conference play with a home GMAC contest against Cedarville on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
