Dragons Dispatch Fighting Scots, Improve to 4-0 in the GMAC

VIENNA, W.Va. - Tiffin volleyball had no trouble defeating Ohio Valley on the road Saturday afternoon, winning each set by a score of 25-12 to sweep the Fighting Scots and remain undefeated in the conference.

Most things went the Dragons' way on the afternoon, as they hit .337 as a team while OVU managed just .062. Tiffin had the advantage in kills (39-21), aces (15-1), digs (39-29), and blocks (16-2). The 15 aces is the fifth-highest total of any Dragon team since joining Division II in 2008.

Individually, Sam Fallis contributed in a big way to that aces total, recording a career-high seven while also adding 12 digs and five assists. Grace Schreiber had an incredibly efficient day up front, registering 10 kills with no errors on just 14 attempts for an eye-popping .714 hitting percentage. She also added six block assists at the net to lead TU.

Jenna Huffman had nine kills, moving her past Jessica Stowers '99 for fourth-place all-time at TU with 1,412 kills and counting.

The domination started early, as after OVU scored the first point of the game, Tiffin responded with six straight points and a 12-2 run to take a 12-3 lead. The Dragons kept scoring in bunches, grabbing leads of 16-5, 20-6, and 24-9 before taking it by a 25-12 final.

Set two was much closer for the first half of the frame, as Tiffin led by just two, 13-11, midway through. However, Fallis then stepped up to serve and recorded four of her seven aces in a 9-0 Dragon run that put the visitors up 22-11. Moments later, another TU ace off the hand of Jenna Huffman ended the set at 25-12.

Tiffin closed out the match just as dominant as they opened, going on a 12-2 run early and taking a 13-4 lead. The score would not get any closer than that, as Tiffin again won 25-12 to earn their third sweep in four conference matches.

A big GMAC test awaits next weekend, as Tiffin will host the two squads (Hillsdale and Findlay) that finished ahead of them in last years' standings and gave the Dragons their only conference defeats. Before that, though, TU will welcome nonconference foe Slippery Rock to the Gillmor Center on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
