LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Tiffin volleyball defeated Christian Brothers 3-1 (29-27, 25-19, 11-25, 25-22) in the first game of day two of the Bellarmine Invite, but fell to host Bellarmine 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) in the nightcap.
After their second-straight weekend with two wins and two losses, the Dragons move to 4-4 on the season. At the conclusion of the invitational, senior Jenna Huffman was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts during Tiffin's four matches.
Tiffin had a thrilling comeback in the first set against Christian Brothers after the Bucs grabbed a 17-11 advantage. Jenna Huffman then started a 9-2 Dragon run with a pair of kills that gave TU a 20-19 lead. The Dragons and Bucs went back-and-forth for the next few points, reaching a 27-27 tie before Jenna Huffman earned another kill and a Buc attack error gave the Dragons the set win.
Set two was a bit easier for Tiffin, pulling away late for a 25-18 win. Christian Brothers would not go away quietly, though, coming alive with a 25-11 win in set three.
The Dragons responded in set four, never trailing after the score was knotted at one early. Jenna Huffman finished off the set and the match with a pair of kills, bringing her team-high total for the match to 17.
Sam Fallis chipped in 12 digs and Morgan White added 11 digs for TU. Grace Schreiber had 11 kills, while Zion Richardson notched 10.
The first set against Bellarmine was close throughout, but the Knights were able to pull away late and take a three-point win.
Set two was much of the same, with the Knights holding a four or five point lead for the majority of action before a Jenna Huffman kill and Knight attack error brought TU within two at 23-21. Bellarmine responded with two points though to take the set and take a 2-0 lead.
Tiffin came out firing in set three, grabbing a 6-1 lead on an ace from Loryn Huffman. The Knights battled back to even the set at 11 apiece though, but Tiffin bounced back to take a 20-17 advantage late. Bellarmine would go on a run, however, scoring eight of the final 10 points to win the set and the match.
Fallis had 13 digs, while Kyndall Hellyer had six kills, two aces, and two blocks for the Dragons.
With two weekends on the road under their belts, the Dragons will return to Tiffin for their home opener on Friday against the University of Indianapolis at 6:00 p.m.
