Dragons Go 1-1 on Day One of Bellarmine Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Tiffin volleyball got the weekend off to a strong start with a sweep of Virginia State on Friday morning, but fell via a sweep to Minnesota State Mankato to end the first day of action at the Bellarmine Invitational.

The Dragons started quickly against Virginia State, going on multiple four or five-point runs to dominate the first set 25-13.

The second set began a bit slower, with Tiffin taking a 7-5 advantage early. However, the Dragons would explode for 18 of the next 22 points to take a 25-9 set two victory. Freshman Morgan White had a pair of aces in the frame.

Fellow freshmen Amari Torain and Alyssa Householder also got into the action in the third set with kills that helped TU to a 25-19 victory. Overall, the Dragons outscored the Trojans 75-31 in the match.

Jenna Huffman finished with 14 kills to lead Tiffin, while Sam Fallis added 13 digs and three aces. The Dragons hit .317 as a team for the match, well above Virginia State's .083 mark.

Tiffin ran into a very strong Minnesota State squad in game two, falling in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-13. 

After dropping the first frame, TU responded in the second set and were in a good position late with an 18-15 advantage. However, the Mavericks would score eight unanswered points en route to the 25-22 win.

Minnesota State controlled play for much of the third set, winning by 12 to defeat Tiffin 3-0.

Action continues at the Bellarmine Invitational as Tiffin will play their final two games tomorrow, starting with Christian Brothers at 11:00 a.m. and ending the tournament with host Bellarmine at 7:00 p.m.
