Dragons Swept by Eagles

TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin women's volleyball traveled the short distance to former GLIAC rival Ashland University on Tuesday night, falling to the Eagles 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 29-27).

In the end, the game does not count towards Tiffin's postseason aspirations, as they long ago clinched a spot in the G-MAC Championships that are set to begin next week. On the season, the Dragons fall to 19-10.

In each of the first two sets, Ashland was able to build an early four or five-point lead and maintain that margin for the rest of the frames to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set, however, was a thriller as Tiffin started well with a 13-5 lead midway through. That lead lasted until back-to-back Eagle kills knotted the set at 20. The Dragons would take back the lead and force a set point on a Kyndall Hellyer kill that made it 24-22, but Ashland was able to tie it once again at 24.

The Dragons earned another chance to take the set at 25-24, but the Eagles were able to reverse the situation and go up 26-25. A few points later, it was an Ashland block that sealed the set 29-27 and the sweep for the Eagles.

Tiffin hit just .140 as a team in the match, only the fifth time all season that the Dragons were held below the .150 mark.

Jenna Huffman led the Dragons with an attack percentage of .343 with 15 kills, seven digs, and five blocks. The junior also moved into seventh-place in the Tiffin record books for career kills, and with 1,069 is just six more from leapfrogging into sixth-place all time as a Dragon.

Loryn Huffman was all over the court, registering 19 assists and 16 digs to lead the team in both categories. Emily Weithman also added 12 assists and an ace, the latter of which moved the senior into a tie for sixth in Tiffin career history with 132.

Tiffin will host their final two games of the regular season this Friday and Saturday as they wrap up G-MAC competition with the two southern schools. First, it will be Trevecca Nazarene at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night followed by Kentucky Wesleyan coming to the Gillmor Center at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

G-MAC Championships action will begin the following Tuesday as the Dragons await their seed in the tournament.
