Oilers Come From Behind to Beat Dragons

FINDLAY, Ohio - After cruising to a 25-17 first-set victory over the University of Findlay on Saturday afternoon, the Dragons fell victim to an Oiler comeback as Findlay took the next three sets to defeat Tiffin 3-1.

None of the four sets were particularly close when they finished on the afternoon, as the smallest margin of victory was eight points.

With the loss, the Dragons fall to 17-9 on the year and 11-4 in the G-MAC, while the Oilers improve to 18-5 overall and 12-2 in the conference.

Four Dragons had at least eight kills in a balanced offensive attack, while Sam Fallis had 13 kills and an ace on the back line.

The first set saw total domination from Tiffin, as the Dragons outhit the Oilers .364 to .105. TU took an early 13-7 lead that would eventually grow to 18-9 and 24-14 before taking the eight-point victory.

It seemed like there was two entirely different teams on the court for the final three sets, as Findlay hit over .380 twice and the Dragons were held below .170 twice as well. Set two was tied at 10 midway through, and still relatively close up until Findlay held a 19-16 lead. The Oilers would rattle off six unanswered points to win the set and even the match at one set apiece.

It was two more late runs that made the difference in both the third and fourth sets, as Findlay closed the frames on 11-4 and 8-1 runs, respectively.

Despite the loss, the Dragons still hold a firm grip on the third spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference West Division with a three-game lead over Kentucky Wesleyan with just four conference games remaining.

Tiffin will return home for a pair of home matches next weekend as they host Davis & Elkins on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Ohio Dominican on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
