Dragons Unable to Hold Off Chargers

TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin women's volleyball was not able to get their revenge on Hillsdale College on Friday night, as the Dragons were swept by the Chargers for the second time this season.

After a couple of tight sets to start (25-23, 25-22), Hillsdale ran away with the third set (25-17) to take the match and remain a perfect 12-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action.

With the loss, the Dragons fall to 11-3 in the G-MAC and 17-8 overall.

Paige VanderWall was the star for the Chargers, recording a double-double with 13 kills and 22 digs while hitting .323. Alyssa Van Wienen added 14 kills, and Lindsay Mertz set up 44 assists in the Hillsdale victory.

For the Dragons, Jenna Huffman had 13 kills, 10 digs, and four blocks. Sydney Gilland hit well, recording 12 kills in the match, while Loryn Huffman added 17 digs and 17 assists. For the match, Tiffin hit just .136, their lowest percentage since an Aug. 31st loss to Illinois-Springfield.

The two teams were very evenly matched through the first two sets, trading blows for blows throughout. Both sets, however, saw the Chargers pull away late for two and three-point victories.

Set three was a different story, as Hillsdale rode momentum from their 2-0 lead to go up by as many as 12, 19-7, before a late rally by the Dragons fell short. With a 25-17 victory, the Chargers took the set and the match.

The Dragons will have to regroup quickly, as they will make the short trip to rival Findlay tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm., looking to avenge a loss at home to the Oilers back on Sept. 28.
