Dragons Turn Aside Arrows, Improve to 10-2 in the GMAC

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - Tiffin women's volleyball is back to their dominating ways, as the Dragons earned their second-straight sweep with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Ursuline College on Sunday afternoon.

Tiffin improves to 10-2 in the conference and 15-5 overall, while Ursuline falls to 8-9 on the year and 6-7 in the G-MAC.

While the Dragons may not have experienced one of their top hitting performances of the season, the defense was stellar, holding the Arrows to just a .164 hitting percentage and recording a whopping 17 total blocks. Jenna Huffman had a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs to go with three blocks, and Amanda Curry added 11 kills, seven digs, and four blocks. Grace Schreiber had the high mark for TU with five blocks.

Tiffin got off to a very slow start, as multiple Dragon errors contributed to Ursuline jumping out to an 8-3 lead in the early going. However, TU was able to quickly regroup and rattle off seven-straight points to take a 10-8 advantage. The rest of the first set stayed close, until with the score tied at 23 a Sydney Gilland kill followed by an Arrow error gave the Dragons the victory.

The Dragons utilized the momentum from the first set to jump out to leads of as many as 11-6, 14-7, and 17-8 in set two. Ursuline fought back, scoring five unanswered to cut the deficit to 17-13, but Tiffin regained their composure and held on for a 25-21 win in the set. 

Tiffin led from start to finish in the third set, putting away the Arrows 25-21. 

The Dragons will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Cedarville for a 7:00 p.m. start.
