Dragons Back to Winning Ways, Sweep Storm

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Tiffin University women's volleyball bounced back from a pair of tough losses last weekend to sweep aside Lake Erie College on the road by scores of 25-23, 25-23, and 25-19. With the win, the Dragons improve to 9-2 in the G-MAC and 14-5 overall.

Lake Erie, a top team in the East Division of the conference, falls to 12-7 on the year and 7-6 in the conference.

The Dragons were efficient, hitting .312 for the match compared to holding the Storm to a mark of .236. Tiffin also registered seven blocks on the afternoon, while not getting blocked themselves at all in the match.

Jenna Huffman was as steady as ever, recording 17 kills, 16 digs, and two blocks while hitting .429. Amanda Curry was not too far behind offensively, putting down 16 kills of her own.

Tiffin and Lake Erie battled back and forth for the entire first set, with neither teams able to break out to a lead of more than three. It got even tighter late, as the teams tied at 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23 before Kyndall Hellyer notched a kill and Grace Schreiber put away the set with an ace.

Set two was much of the same, but Tiffin was able to break loose slightly with a four-point lead, 16-12, after a Storm error. Lake Erie was able to mount a comeback and take a 22-21 lead, but four straight kills from Huffman, Schreiber, Curry, and Sydney Gilland gave the Dragons the victory to go up 2-0 in the match.

Tiffin had a bit of an easier time with the third set, as after the score was tied at 11, the Dragons broke out for a quick 4-1 run and would never relinquish the lead. Curry wound up with the final kill, giving Tiffin a 25-19 win in the set and the sweep of the match.

The Dragons will remain on the east side of the state for their next match on Sunday afternoon as they visit Ursuline College at 2:00 p.m.
