Dragons Fall to G-MAC Leader Hillsdale on the Road

HILLSDALE, Mich. - Tiffin women's volleyball was unable to rebound from their first conference loss of the season on Friday, as the Dragons fell in straight sets (25-19, 27-25, 25-21) to G-MAC leader Hillsdale College on Saturday.

Tiffin falls to 8-2 in the conference and 13-5 overall, while Hillsdale improves to 12-3 on the year and 9-0 in the G-MAC.

The Chargers hit an impressive .279 as a team throughout the match, including .303 in the third set. Paige VanderWall led the way, hitting .438 with 16 kills and two errors along with ten digs. Kara Vyletel also added 15 kills for the Chargers, while Taylor Wiese recorded 30 digs.

For the Dragons, Jenna Huffman and Amanda Curry tallied 14 kills apiece, with Huffman registering another impressive attack percentage of .519. Sam Fallis also picked up 18 digs for Tiffin.

The Dragons did a good job of matching the Chargers point-for-point for the majority of the first set, as a kill by Curry tied the opener at 15 apiece. However, a quick 4-0 Hillsdale run provided the Chargers with enough momentum to take the first set by a 25-19 final.

Tiffin found some success in set two, taking a 17-14 lead on a Sydney Gilland kill. A few points later, though, VanderWall sent home consecutive kills to put the Chargers up 22-20. The Dragons tied it back up at 22 apiece, and then the score was knotted at 23, 24, and 25 before Hillsdale received back-to-back Vyletel kills to outlast the Dragons 27-25.

The third set was close throughout as well, as neither team held more than a three-point advantage until the final point. With the score tied at 21, two Hillsdale kills and a pair of Dragon attack errors resulted in a 4-0 run to win the set and the match.

Tiffin will look to bounce back next Friday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Ursuline College for game two of their six-game road trip. The opening serve is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
