TIFFIN, Ohio - After opening well and leading for much of the first set, Tiffin women's volleyball lost their advantage late and dropped the set, and the University of Findlay rode that momentum to a 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-22) win. The loss snapped a program record-tying 11-straight wins for the Dragons as they fall to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in the G-MAC.
Findlay improves to 13-2 on the year and 8-1 in the conference.
The Oilers held up to their reputation for being a very good serving and attacking squad, recording seven service aces and a hitting percentage of .322 for the match. Coming into tonight's match, the Oilers were ranked first and third in Division II in those respective categories. Most impressively in the match, Findlay notched 19 kills without an error in the second set to hit .528. Izzy Murphy and Amanda Winner led the charge offensively, tallying 11 kills apiece, while Kara Scherger recorded 18 digs and three aces.
Jenna Huffman was the bright spot for the Dragons, hitting .462 with 15 kills and just three errors. Loryn Huffman (16) and Sam Fallis (11) led the team in digs. Tiffin did manage to register more blocks than Findlay, 3-2.
Set one started very well for the Dragons, as they raced out to a 14-8 lead after a Jenna Huffman ace. The lead grew to 20-14 in favor of the home team, but Findlay rallied with an 8-2 run to tie the set at 22. Tiffin had three chances to put away the set, leading 24-22, 24-23, and 25-24, but the Dragons were unable to close out the Oilers as Findlay completed the comeback and took the first set 27-25.
Set two was close for the majority of the time, as the Dragons and Oilers played to a 15-15 tie over midway through. However, Findlay unleashed eight kills around two aces to close the set on a 10-4 run and win 25-19.
Tiffin did not go away quietly, though, as the Dragons led by as many as three, 20-17, late in the third set. Once again, the Oilers closed a set as strong as could be, scoring six of the next seven points and eventually taking a 25-22 set three victory to earn the 3-0 sweep.
