Dragons Make Quick Work of Battlers in GMAC Opener

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Tiffin University women's volleyball team raced out to an early lead in the first set and never looked back as the Dragons swept the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus University in straight sets, 3-0, in their first-ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular-season match on Tuesday evening. With their fourth-straight win, Tiffin improves to 6-3 and 1-0 in the GMAC, while Alderson Broaddus falls to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Jenna Huffman had a stellar outing for the Dragons, tallying 12 kills on 19 attempts for a .526 attack percentage. The junior also notched 10 digs and three blocks in the win. Sydney Gilland was also strong for Tiffin, recording a .545 attack percentage with six kills. As a team, Tiffin hit above .265 in all three sets - .344, .279, and .267, respectively, while Alderson Broaddus was in the negatives in two of three sets.

As mentioned, the Dragons flew out to a hot start, recording nine of the first 10 points to take an early 9-1 lead. It didn't get much better for the Battlers from there, as three consecutive attack errors eventually ballooned the Tiffin advantage to 18-6. The teams traded points over the rest of the set, before Jenna Huffman sealed the deal with a kill to give the Dragons a 25-13 first-set victory.

Alderson Broaddus did their best to stifle Tiffin's momentum in set two, however, as the Battlers grabbed their biggest set advantage at any point of the night, 12-7, on a kill by Racheal Lee. After a little back-and-forth brought the score to 15-10 in favor of the Battlers, the Dragons roared back with an 8-1 run punctuated by kills from Grace Schreiber and Olivia Davis that tilted the lead back in Tiffin's favor, 18-16. With the momentum fully back on their side, the Dragons put down kill after kill throughout the remainder of the frame to take set two 25-21.

The first half of set three was a see-saw affair, with the teams recording nine ties by the time the score reached 11-11. A kill from Gilland and an ace by Kyley Keene ignited a 6-2 run for the Dragons, all but putting away the Battlers for good. Tiffin closed the third and final set on a 8-2 run, highlighted by three kills from freshman Kyndall Hellyer, as they took the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.

Tiffin will look to extend its win streak to five games on Saturday as they continue GMAC play by hosting Cedarville University at 2:00 p.m.
