Dragons Open the Year with Strong Showing at Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Tiffin University women's tennis team opened the 2018-19 campaign with the Oberlin Invitational this weekend, facing opponents at both the NCAA Division II and III levels. 

On Saturday, Anais Geslin and Abbie-Jade Riley took down IUP 8-4, and the duo teamed up again to beat another IUP pairing 8-4 on Sunday as well. Riley faired well in singles too, defeating Case Western Reserve 4-2, 4-1 on day one and IUP 4-1, 0-4, 10-8 this afternoon to improve to a perfect 4-0 on the weekend. Geslin scored a win in singles as well, knocking off West Liberty 4-1, 4-2 on Saturday, but fell to Findlay on day two.  

In a couple of tight singles matches, Juliette Sirgant was able to beat Slippery Rock 2-4, 4-1, 10-7 on Saturday and IUP 2-4, 4-3 (2), 10-6 on Sunday. Sirgant paired up with Lauren Prince to earn an 8-2 win over Case Western Reserve on Sunday after the duo fell on Saturday. Prince was one of three Dragons to go undefeated in singles and 3-1 overall on the weekend (joining Sirgant and Geslin), as she took down Walsh 4-1, 0-4, 10-2 on day one before earning a victory over Case Western Reserve 4-1, 4-0 on day two.

Shea Foster was the other Dragon to enter the winning column twice during the tournament, as she beat Oberlin 4-1, 4-1 on Saturday before pairing up with Cassandra Weidner to defeat Wooster 8-7 (5) on Sunday.

Tiffin is back in action with the Bowling Green Invitational next weekend, Sept. 14-15.
