Dragons Rout Alderson Broaddus 5-0

PHILIPPI, W.Va. - Tiffin women's soccer went on the road and dominated Alderson Broaddus on Thursday, defeating the Battlers 5-0.

The Dragons set season-highs in goals, shots (30), and shots on goal (16). It wasn't just the offense that impressed, however, as the defense held the Battlers to just three shots in the match with only one put on frame, which keeper Nahomi Lopez easily turned aside for her only save of the contest. Tiffin also outpaced Alderson Broaddus in corner kicks to the tune of 7-0.

The five-goal output is TU's highest since Sept. 29, 2017 when they defeated Purdue Northwest 5-1. To find the last time that Tiffin won a match by at least a five-goal margin, you have to go back nine years to Oct. 31, 2010, when the Dragons routed Lake Erie 7-0.

The game started slow, with neither team getting on the board in the first 30 minutes. Sierra Besecker would break the scoreless tie, though, with her third goal of the season at the 30:26 mark to put the Dragons in front.

TU only held the one goal lead at the break despite taking 15 shots, so it was just a matter of time before more of the attempts would translate into points on the scoreboard.

Eleven minutes into the second-half, that would prove true as Claudia Santillan scored the first goal of her career in the 56th minute.

Emma Siler made it 3-0 in favor of Tiffin in the 71st, followed by Lily Cady tacking on another in the 80th.

The Dragons would get one more before the final whistle by virtue of an own goal just moments before time was set to expire.

With their first victory of the season, TU improves to 1-6-1 in the GMAC on the season, while AB falls to 0-7.

Tiffin will now have a week off before returning home to host Ursuline and Lake Erie next Friday and Sunday.
