Dragons Drop Heartbreaker to Panthers

TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin women's soccer tied things up in the 71st minute to force overtime but Kentucky Wesleyan was able to get the golden goal with under four minutes to play in double  overtime to defeat the Dragons 3-2.

TU outshot KWC 23-19 in the contest, also gaining eight corners to the Panthers' four.

The Dragons got on the board first in just the fourth minute, as Emma Siler gathered the ball at the top of the box and rifled a shot past the keeper's left side. The goal was Siler's first of her collegiate career, giving Tiffin a 1-0 lead in the early going.

The Panthers would respond quickly, though, as Madisyn Hunt broke through the TU defense and knotted the score at one.

The game remained tied until just after halftime, as Hunt then found teammate Natalie Hinchcliffe for a goal to give Kentucky Wesleyan a 2-1 advantage.

Tiffin kept on working the ball into the attacking third, though, generating multiple chances before finally finding the equalizer in the 71st minute. The Dragons were awarded a free kick about five yards outside the box on the left side, and Sierra Besecker stepped up and launched a rocket just inside the right post.

In the first overtime period, Tiffin was able to take three shots and allowed just one, but could not find the back of the net. The Dragons also managed a shot in the second overtime, but it was KWC's only shot of the period that crossed the goal line as Hunt registered the golden goal in the 107th minute of the game.

To go with her first collegiate goal, Siler also recorded a career-high with seven shots, placing four on frame. Besecker had four shots with her one goal, while Julia Effinger added three attempts and Leila Hannaoui two.

Tiffin will remain home for two more conference games next week, as they host Ohio Dominican on Thursday and Cedarville on Saturday.
